Mr. Kevin YoungThe Enka High School Band is under the direction of Mr. Kevin Young. Kevin is a native of Weaverville, NC and is a graduate of Mars Hill University. Mr. Young is a sought out trumpeter, adjudicator and teacher throughout all of Western NC. Mr. Young is in his eleventh year teaching and his seventh here at Enka. He is only the fourth band director in the history of our program following Roger Caldwell, John L. Lackey, and Ralph Middleton. Prior to Enka, Mr. Young was the director at Asheville Middle School where his ensembles received Superior ratings in concert and jazz music performance adjudication events. In 2016, his Jazz Band at AMS performed for the NC Music Educators Conference in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Young resides in Candler, NC with his lovely wife Amanda and three children, Chase, Colby, and Audrey. He is proud to be a jet. Mr. Kevin KimbroughMr. Kimbrough is the band director at Enka Middle School and Enka Intermediate School. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in music education from Western Carolina University and has always had a love for music. His passion and desire to teach started when he was in seventh grade band where he was inspired by his teacher at Dodgen Middle School in Marietta, GA.
As a student at Western Carolina University he was an active leader in the concert band, jazz band, marching band, and chamber ensembles. After graduating from WCU, he taught for three years in Haywood County. There the jazz program and solo/ensemble groups received high ratings in their festival performances and the band program grew steadily over time. Mr. Kimbrough lives in Candler with his wife Madeline and son Samuel. He is a member of NCMEA, NAfME, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He enjoys spending time with his wife, his son, running, biking, camping, playing trombone/bass, and making bow ties.
