Welcome Rookies!!
We would like to welcome all new parents and students to the Enka High School Band & Color Guard Music Program.  We are looking forward to an exciting season and another wonderful year for our Program.

Whether you are transitioning from a middle school band program or transferring from another school, entering the Enka High School Band & Color Guard Music Program can be intimidating and overwhelming. Our goal is to assist you in this transition process with all the moving parts as the school year progresses. There are major efforts required to run such large music program and we want your child to feel welcomed and successful.

It’s difficult to explain everything you will need to know on this page alone. The 'Parent's Corner' has been developed to be friendly, logical and every attempt is being made to have the latest information you need.  The band website is your biggest resource for information regarding all our performing ensembles. We are developing links to each performing group we have to offer, resources for parents and students as well as information about our Band Booster program.

We hope this will help explain some of the craziness that goes on within the music program.  Please do not hesitate to ask a veteran parent any question you may have. They will do their best to answer or point you in the right direction. Again, please do not hesitate to ask any question that you may have.  Thank you in advance for your support and assistance for a fabulous year!

Here are a few very helpful tips:
  • Make your child responsible for being prepared. The first time they forget something will be the last!!!  They learn to be resourceful when they have to be.
  • Communication is crucial. If there is something that comes up and you need help getting your student to or from rehearsal/performance/etc., let a director know and start calling other parents. Section leaders are also great resources when you’re in a pinch. They know how important it is to have everyone there on time.
  • Your band director and band boosters are always willing and ready to answer any questions you may have, Contact Us
  • Network – This is how we meet each other.  It is also one of the best ways to get helpful hints on band parenting from others.
  • Get Involved ! Browse or search our website, attend band booster meetings or visit band practices and talk with other parents, attend band meetings, and watch your email for volunteer opportunities.
Check the Band Calendar to stay on top of upcoming events and mark your calendars now with dates from the 2019-20 Master Calendar.

Band Camp!  How to help your child:
TIPS FROM YOUR LEADERSHIP (AKA the Jr's & Sr's who have been there, done that, and learned what NOT to do!)
  • Do NOT wear jeans, wear light colored clothing. Wear athletic clothing that lets you sweat, stretch and march.
  • Wear sunscreen & a hat (it’s ok to be the sombrero kid!)
  • Eat Breakfast BEFORE you come EVERY day
  • Drink water before/during/after camp each day
  • Bring snacks and a lunch.
  • Bring an extra pair of socks, we will be outside in the morning, your feet will get wet
  • Start thinking about “Am I feeling it” or “Am I hurt”

  • Remember band camp fees are due BY THE 1st day of band camp!   If you haven’t paid the 1st part, please bring it all.  Booster exec will be present to help collect your fees, or you can pay online by clicking the link on the HOME page of this website.  Cash- please put in envelope w/ your name, check - make out to ENKA Band.

From Mr.  Young:

Parents, please be sure to send healthy items for your child at lunch. No student will leave campus to get food. If you choose not to bring food at lunch that is your choice. We do have a new cell phone policy in the band room. All students will turn in their phones in a designated location on the wall. They may only have them on large breaks (10 minutes or longer). This is not just a band policy but an Enka high policy that I believe is wonderful. Please make all arrangements before you drop your child off.
Finally, band camp is the toughest part of marching band. We will be doing some physical fitness because marching band is a physical activity. All students must wear tennis shoes! This year is going to be awesome and to be honest I’ve been excited since school let out! Let’s get this season started with a bang!
