Freshmen Information
I hope everyone is looking forward to being part of the Enka High Marching Band. We have had some very good groups in the past and plan to keep that tradition going. This year's group looks great. Every member of our marching group is equally important. Once we start band camp everyone is given a spot in the show and only that person can perform that spot. Make sure your student is at every required performance and rehearsal. Rehearsals and performances are part of each student's grade.
Percussion and flag members have two full weeks of camp. Wind players have only full week of camp that is required. I will begin handing out uniforms during the week of July 31 - August 4th.. If you are a wind player and not in town that week, you may wait until the next week during camp to receive it. If you are in town, please try and stop by between the hours of 9:00 and 4:00,
Cost for band camp is $75.00.
Representatives from Asheville Music Supply will be here on August 9th to measure students for shoes. Shoes will cost $30.00 and gloves will be $2.00. Students can also purchase things such as lyres, folios if they wish to have them. I will furnish them with a price list on Monday, August 7th (1st day of camp) so you can figure what all they want to get on Wednesday. Checks brought on Wednesday, August 9th should be made out to Asheville Music Supply.
Students should wear comfortable tennis shoes (not new ones) and socks during camp weeks. Students are not allowed to wear sandals during any marching rehearsal. Students cannot learn the proper marching style unless they are wearing the proper shoes. Everyone should bring a bag lunch and something to drink for lunch. Most students usually bring a small cooler to put their lunch and drink in. We provide ice and cups if they need them. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE DURING LUNCH. Parents can bring their child something to school, but students are not allowed to leave campus. This is for the safety of everyone!
If you have any questions, please give me a call at school. I know that freshmen are often nervous coming in at first but they will quickly get into the swing of things. We have a very high return rate every year because most of the students love Marching Band!
